
| Parco Nazionale della Majella is one of the four National Parks in the heart of the Abruzzo region in central Italy Appenines. It is the first PAN Parks of Western Europe. La Majella, by the people of Abruzzo fondly calles "La Madra Montagna ", consists of an impressive group of high mountains. Majella is a limestone massif, rich with caves and caverns, with more than 60 peaks, 30 of which exceed 2000 meters.. It consists of plateaus and steep valleys.. The villages lie in beautiful hills covered with olive trees, almond trees and the beautiful yellow flowering broom.. The houses are built with limestone from the park. Monte Amaro is 2793 meters the highest mountain and second highest peak of Italy beyond the Alps.. Majella is unique by its location, near the Adriatic Sea and at the crossroads of several climates. This is why there is a very diverse flora and fauna. | ||
| The Majella Mountains, in the east intersected by deep gorges where man throughout the centuries has left its mark. Hermitage (eremi) and shepherd huts (tolos) are the visible remains, but there is also much invisible. Recent excavations continue on the high plains of the park as early as the prehistoric land was cultivated. The Vale Giumentina will soon open an educational center on the paleontholitic time. Education, science and nature are in the park in a high standard, in several villages on the edge of the park there are visitor centers where you can find lots of information.
